On Veterans Day: The Liberation of Nazi Death Camps
Published November 11, 2008 @ 06:44AM PT
Surely nothing, not even the horrors of war, could have prepared Allied troops for what they found when they liberated the Nazi concentration camps at the end of World War II.
In their own words:
Happy Veterans Day to my friends and family, and to all who have answered the call to serve in the Armed Forces. I know many who hold a bias against the military--for reasons that often have more to do with the choices politicians in DC--but there is much in this country that we can take for granted on account of our troops. And while WWII was not fought to end the Holocaust, it's difficult to imagine how else the Nazi quest to exterminate the Jews would have ended if not for military intervention, save for success in their goal.
