Daily Darfur: Problem? What Problem?

Published October 10, 2008 @ 05:04AM PST

Apparently, Darfur is mostly safe. "There are no problems and life is very normal." Mass rape did not occur. Allegations of genocide are "fabricated and made up." Thanks for clearing that up, Mr. Bashir.

Back to reality:

A new Qatar-led peace process is moving along, though no details have emerged about the "action plan" presented to the Sudanese government. The new UN mediator and the Darfur rebels appear to be on board--at least with the idea of peace, which is a start. But the devil is in the details, and I'm not terribly keen on any process that seeks to suspend the International Criminal Court indictment proceedings against Sudanese president al-Bashir.
