Daily Darfur: Bombing Begins Again

"Peacekeepers said they saw Sudanese government aircraft bombing suspected rebel positions in the western Darfur region on Wednesday, days after negotiations between Khartoum and the insurgents resumed."

The unnamed UNAMID official quoted in the above-referenced Reuters report said that the targets were likely positions held by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), following clashes with a (government-backed) faction of the Sudan Liberation Army earlier this week. Not exactly a way to make nice on the playground, especially as JEM representatives finally resumed talks with negotiators in Qatar, though recent rebel troop movements in Darfur have been less than helpful.

Violence does, after all, beget violence.
