A Petition from Amnesty International:
"The situation in the DRC remains on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. The priority at the moment is reinforcing the capacity of the UN’s peacekeeping force, MONUC, to protect civilians and to ensure people have access to humanitarian assistance. At least 250,000 civilians, most of them women and children, were displaced by the recent fighting. These people are in a desperate situation, without sufficient food, water, medical supplies or shelter.
"Call on the US government to ensure that the UN Security Council takes further steps to protect civilians in eastern DRC."
This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

There are far too many civilians in DRC, who have been killed, who died from lack of food or medical help due to the war and far too many women have been raped.

I feel this is an important pledge becuase innocent tamils and singalams are getting killed because of this war. If the government wants to fight then why not fight with the tamil tigers instead of killing many innocent people. This problem between the tamil tigers and the government will get bigger and bigger. Please Obama take a stand to stop this ancient war that has been going on for too long.
thank you

EVERYONE LISTEN UP!!! we can't let innocent people suffer so horribly! It IS our responsibility as a greater nation to step up to the plate and help them! If you were starving somewhere every night, waiting for some outside force to save you, wouldn't you want your prayers to be answered? I know i would!!!

In my opinion, we should not be having to beg the United Nations to do what it was designed to do in the first place. Now, the Palestinians are being subjected to phosphorous dropped on them. There is an outcry the whole world over.
It would seem the barbarism is so outrageous that it leads one to wonder whether or not Israel has planted the "trip wire" for Iran, hoping to sucker them into trying to intervene in the bloodshed, I smell the NWO. Everyone should try to understand what is going on, take the mind challenge and read the last posted archive of www.worldreports.com and connect the dots.

One of the worst humanitarian tragedies in the world & one of the most ignored for years now. While Darfur, Palestine & Niger (famine) are places of intense suffering, the People, animals & natural resources of the Congo have been sufferring in what I truly believe is hell on earth in some parys of the country, especially for women & children. May their suffering come to an end very soon.

I agree with Allen, not only do the innocent civilians of eastern DRC need protection but also the civilians of the Gaza Strip and all other civilians under such horrible situations

In addition to protecting the innocent civilians in eastern DRC, I encourage that the same protection be offered to the civilians in the Gaza Strip as the Israeli Military kill and wound innocent women, elderly and children. This murder of the innocent civilians in Gaza is unwarranted, UnAmerican and inhumain. It must be stopped at once and Israeli leadership should be charged with "war crimes". Thank you, Dr. Delmas J.
